Jane Fonda Just Turned 75. Give It Up Protesters….. For Cripes Sake!

The other day I was out driving around aimlessly, as I do on occasion, just to drive around aimlessly, and as I came to a stop light, happened to notice a bumper sticker on a vehicle directly in front of me as I waited at the red light. It read:

“Jane Fonda, Call 1-800-Hanoi.”

So I turned to my other half and said. “Boy, is that guy still stuck in the 70’s.”

Of course the bumper sticker was in protest to Jane’s infamous trip to Hanoi during the Vietnam war at which point she was photographed and as usual , for Jane, who objected to our involvement in that war, made some comments that infuriated a lot of people. Did I mention the Vietnam war and Jane’s visit to Hanoi was back in the 70’s?

Now I can perfectly understand a lot of people being upset over that incident. Especially at the time it took place. I can also understand Jane’s explanation of that visit and that photo of her posing with a gun. Here are her comments from “Wikipedia.”

“It happened on my last day in Hanoi. I was exhausted and an emotional wreck after the 2-week visit … The translator told me that the soldiers wanted to sing me a song. He translated as they sung. It was a song about the day ‘Uncle Ho’ declared their country’s independence in Hanoi’s Ba Dinh Square. I heard these words: “All men are created equal; they are given certain rights; among these are life, Liberty and Happiness.” These are the words Ho pronounced at the historic ceremony. I began to cry and clap. These young men should not be our enemy. They celebrate the same words Americans do. The soldiers asked me to sing for them in return … I memorized a song called Day Ma Di, written by anti-war South Vietnamese students. I knew I was slaughtering it, but everyone seemed delighted that I was making the attempt. I finished. Everyone was laughing and clapping, including me … Here is my best, honest recollection of what happened: someone (I don’t remember who) led me towards the gun, and I sat down, still laughing, still applauding. It all had nothing to do with where I was sitting. I hardly even thought about where I was sitting. The cameras flashed … It is possible that it was a set up, that the Vietnamese had it all planned. I will never know. But if they did I can’t blame them. The buck stops here. If I was used, I allowed it to happen … a two-minute lapse of sanity that will haunt me forever … But the photo exists, delivering its message regardless of what I was doing or feeling. I carry this heavy in my heart. I have apologized numerous times for any pain I may have caused servicemen and their families because of this photograph. It was never my intention to cause harm.”

Ok, believe her or not is not the point of today’s blog. The point of today’s blog is that Jane just celebrated her 75th birthday, the war has been over for eons, and sometimes ya just have to let go of hate and discontent. Except when it comes to ex-wives.

They hold grudges FOREVER! Hmmm…..where the hell are THOSE bumper stickers?

Actually I did see one bumper sticker on a car driven by a woman that said: “My other car is a broom.”

Before I continue with today’s blog, consider this:

Olivia Culpo went from being Miss USA to Miss Universe on Wednesday night – and it didn’t take her long for her to begin thinking internationally … at least when it comes to eating.

“I can’t wait to go to Asia,” the 20-year-old Rhode Island beauty told PEOPLE on Thursday morning. “I’ve never been anywhere in Asia. I like Asian food. I love soup. I really want to go to Vietnam and try some soup. There’s nothing like it being authentic.”miss-usa-300

Welcome to the 21st century.

I am one that feels very strongly about forgiveness. Except when it comes to ex wives. Well…um…..maybe there too. But only when my ex wives stop with the voodoo dolls made in my image and continue to poke them with very sharp needles every night.

HEY! Don’t we all do and say stupid things when we’re young and foolish. Like, “Geez honeeeee. If ya let me jump your bones I promise you I’ll love you for a lifetime.”

Or…..”Ms. Fonda, wanna do us a favor and just sing a few songs with us and maybe let us take a picture of you sitting next to a very big gun…you know….just to cheer up the troops.”jane fonda 1

But, some people, like that guy toting that bumper sticker on his car, just refuse to let go. Yes, he could very well have been a Vietnam vet and still has terrible memories of that conflict. As do many vets from World War II and Korea. Yet today, many of those vets have forgiven, not forgotten, but forgiven their enemies.

Not to mention the hundreds of American businesses who have flocked to countries that were once our enemies and are rolling in dough from their new business ventures. Sadly, it’s the American way. Go to war with a country, win that war, and Shazam! all kinds of new business opportunities. Should we hate them as well?

Personally I think this has more to do with the politics of war and politicians than what someone says or does. But should we harbor these feelings of hate and discontent forever? With the exception of ex wives of course.

Or ex husbands. (hafta give women equal hate and discontent time as well)

Jane Fonda may have screwed up, and you may or may not buy her explanation as to what happened back in the 70’s. But what good does it do to still ride around with a bumper sticker on your car that STILL expresses that hate and discontent? Other than to give yourself some satisfaction. The again, I guess it still gives my ex wives some satisfaction to poke those needles into those voodoo dolls.

But, that said, I have some very good pain prescriptions, so if any of my ex wives are out there reading this……..”THE VOODOO DOLLS AIN’T WORKIN’!

In conclusion, at 75 Jane still looks hot. She’s admitted to having plastic surgery, but only on her eyes, and attributes her good looks and great body to having good genes.jane fonda 5

I myself still have a great body and wish I could also have plastic surgery on my own eyes because I also have some really good genes. What I don’t have is some really good cash to have plastic surgery.

My genes are really great looking but my freakin’ eyeballs are falling out.

Happy Birthday Jane from one person who practices forgiveness. Like that old saying, “Let he who hath no sin cast the first stone.”

With the exception of anyone’s ex wives, ex husbands and ex mother-in-laws. We all know that all of them are as pure as the driven snow.

Old soldiers never die, they just fade away. True. She may outlive us but I will never forget the body bags at Bien Hoa airstrip with GI’s in them. Her actions because of who she was and who she told the enemy she represented got a lot of guys killed and prolonged the war. The 60’s liberals, the ones teaching, in politics and control of the media dodged the war. They never got spit on or spoken to as some dog when they returned. She sure is going to be in a hot place in her afterlife.
