What The Heck Is A “Pussy Riot” Rally? And…does it involve cats?

“Global activists gear up for Pussy Riot rallies”

That was the headline story I came across from Associated Press Business reporter, Nataliya Vasilyeva.

First of all, before you doubt the credibility of this reporter, who may or may not be Russian, I don’t want you to stereotype her simply because, as all Americans do, immediately think of Boris and Natasha from the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons. Mention Russians, and that’s the first thing that comes to our feeble minds. Which is why a lot of us uninformed Americans still think Johnny Cash is a pay toilet. (old joke….sorry)

AP Reporter Nataliya Vasilyeva

Nataliya, being a business reporter, made it her business to report this story, which is not about pussy cats rioting over better litter boxes, as I originally thought, or about anything pornographic for those of you perverts who only think of one thing when you hear the word “pussy,” but about a punk, (sorry Dirty Harry) rock group from Russia who presently are in custody, (prison) on charges of, “hooliganism” which, according to Russian officials, “is motivated by religious hatred.”  Verrrrrrrrrrry serious charges.

Boris and Natasha. No relation to Nataliya from the AP

Hooliganism, for those of you who think it’s an Irish dance, is actually, “lawless behavior or conduct typical of a hooligan.”  Hope that clears things up for ya.

So, now that I’ve cleared all this up I can get back to this pussy stuff. Which as I said above, is a punk provocateur rock band named, “Pussy Riot.”

They were protesting in a church in Moscow’s Main Cathedral last February which was considered an anti Putin prank to bring attention to their displeasure with the Russian president. According to the article they were, “asking the Virgin Mary to deliver Russians from Putin.” Unlike delivering pizzas “to” Putin.

The “Pussy Riot” group members in jail upsetting their guards by making obscene meowing sounds.

This Friday in a number of cities at 2pm (Moscow time) rallies will take place at exactly one hour before a jury issues its verdict on the trio. The members of the group are, and only because I like attempting to type Russian names, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alekhina, and Yekaterina Samutsevich. Obviously names we will all remember and possibly, when they become really famous, name our children after.

Some famous celebrities are supporting the group, like Madonna, Bjork, Peaches, and the Pet Shop Boys. Madonna went so far as to wear a baklava on her head and…..um….oops….sorry, got that wrong, it was a “balaclava.” Baklava, as we all know is a Greek pastry and, although I doubt Madonna would wear that on her head, as certainly Lady Ga Ga would, it surely would not have made a statement with regard to supporting the Pussy Riot group. On the other hand it might have inspired a lot of Greeks to stand behind the band.

Verrrrry tasty but NOT what Madonna wore on her head.

Oh, yeah, a “balaclava” is similar to a ski mask but with face and eyes exposed. I guess there’s no opening for your mouth just in case someone actually did wear a baklava and you wanted a quick snack while protesting. Come to think of it, if there’s no opening for a mouth how did Madonna sing. Or breathe for that matter. (no mention of that in the article folks)

THIS is the actual “balaclava” Madonna wore. Although I personally would have opted for the tastier baklava.

Pete Townsend, (The Who) and members of the “Pet Shop Boys” published a letter in “The Times” of London urging Putin to give “Pussy Riot” a fair hearing. They should have sent a letter to all “Werewolves of London” as well.  (I put that last line in so I could have an excuse to post the video by Warren Zevon)

Ha Ha Ha Ha….here it comes folks….I knew he couldn’t resist a “pussy” joke in here somewhere…I told ya!

Here in the U.S. some 700,000 petitions in support of the Pussys, (sorry, had to throw it in at least once) were dumped on the sidewalk of the Russian embassy in D.C. by the diplomats inside (Russians obviously) stating that, “they did not want them on Russian soil.”  I myself would have immediately questioned that on the grounds that there might not actually be any “soil” per se at the Russian embassy. Make them damn Ruskies produce a potted plant or something to prove they actually have soil in which they could claim was actual Russian soil.

If you’re interested in showing your support for the group, a protest is scheduled outside the Russian consulate in New York and at Times Square on Friday. I would assume it’s at 2pm. Might wanna bring your cat along just to make a statement. You know, pussy rights and things. Can’t hurt. Maybe hold up some “Fresh Step” or “Tidy Cat” litter boxes and maybe even wear a few cans of “Fancy Feast” or “Friskies” in place of baklava or a balaclava. HEY……I bet if Madonna had thought of that she would have done it!

Um….on second thought, think I’ll pass on the baklava and go with the balaclava.

I myself would love to go to New York in support of “Pussy Riot,” but I have 5 cats of my own who like to be fed twice a day and if I so much as miss one feeding time I’d have my own “pussy riot” on my hands. Just sayin’
