Limbaugh…..Does Anybody Really Get It?

Look folks, I tried, I really tried not to write a blog about the recent comments made by conservative talk show how Rush Limbaugh.  Honest….I really did try.  But, eventually I said to myself, “what the hell, go for it” knowing full well that I’ll be opening up a can of really slimy worms…..which freak me out, because I can’t stand even touching a worm. Yuk!

Which is also one reason I never got into fishing.

Anyhow, by now all of you reading this know what the flap is all about. If not, you’re obviously living under a rock as depicted in one of those Geico commercials.

Briefly, just in case you HAVE been living under a damn rock, this is what happened.

On one of his usually calm radio broadcasts Rush got all bent outta shape because Georgetown University law school student Sandra Fluke testified before Congress advocating mandatory contraception insurance coverage for women. His response to this was to label her a “slut” and a “prostitute,” for advocating such a thing.

I did some research and so far have not found any references to sluts or prostitutes testifying before Congress in the past. Maybe actually BEING with a Congressman in a motel room somewhere, but NEVER in front of Congress. (Congressional perks)

So, what’s the bottom line here?  The bottom line is Don Imus.  Yes, New York radio show personality Don Imus who was fired for using the term, “nappy headed hos,” when referring to the Rutgers Woman’s Basketball team in 2009.

Here is the statement from CBS from 2009:

CBS announced Thursday that it has fired Don Imus from his radio program, following a week of uproar over the radio host’s derogatory comments about the Rutgers women’s basketball team.

“There has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society,” CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves said in announcing the decision.

One of those discussions took place at noon today with a coalition of leaders from the civil rights and women’s movements, who said it was time for Imus to go, reports CBS News correspondent Nancy Cordes.

“It’s important that we stand with the women of Rutgers who are deeply hurt by the highly insensitive comments of Don Imus,” said Marc Morial, CEO of the National Urban League.

Ok….I understand that this had racial tones, (the comments by Imus) and perhaps it was said in a moment of stupidity.  BUT……even so, he DID say it and CBS took action. whether you agree with their decision or not, at least they took some sort of action.

Now, again, that said, which I just did, Clear Channel Corp. which is the group that owns Limbaugh’s contract and owns the venue which he broadcasts from should do the same. Can the stupid ass.  Even though his comments were not racially motivated, they were and affront to all women, not just Sandra Fluke.  Obviously some sponsors agree with that because some have dropped their sponsorship of Rush’s program.

In an excerpt from the “Political Ticker,” these were his comments about some of his sponsors leaving:

“I’m sorry to see them go. They have profited handsomely from you. These advertisers who have split the scene have done very well from their access to you, my audience on this program.”

He added, “That’s a business decision and it’s theirs alone to make. They’ve decided they don’t want you or your business anymore.”

He also added that he once rejected ads from “General Motors” because he objected to the government’s bailout.

Yeah….we don’t need their stinkin’ money. Isn’t that what all networks say when they’re trying make a buck from an advertiser? Better check THAT one out folks.

In my own slanted opinion, and I say slanted because I’m no fan of Rush, but I do think fair is fair and he went waaaay over the line, as did Imus, and should pay the price for his stupid insensitive remarks. OR……should he be exempt, because, after all, he IS Rush Limbaugh and it IS free speech, which we are all entitled to…..except for Don Imus.

Here’s another point that a news broadcast brought up when asked about Rush’s comments.  “It’s a double standard here. It’s ok for Bill Maher to use the “C” word when referring to Sarah Palin however.”

Yeah ya damn dummy, but as far as I’m concerned whatever celebrities, talk show hosts, comedians want to call EACH OTHER in the media for the sake of comedy or what the freak ever, I don’t, and you shouldn’t, give a rats ass about. Its…and puleeeease let this sink in, “it’s when you call a normal everyday citizen a freakin’ “slut” or prostitute for cripes sake.  Again….(for those who are not able to absorb simple logic) this woman was NOT a celebrity that anyone should be kicking around.  She was attempting to make a point, which all of us citizens who are not celebrities try to make without being called a name, IN FRONT OF CONGRESS!!!!!!!!

Yes….he half heartedly apologized….(blaming the left) with a panty waist smirk, but to me, he should suffer the same fate as did Imus.  UNLESS….of course, because, once again, he IS Rush Limbaugh.

Folks, step back for a moment. Um….not too far back, don’t want ya to trip over anything and get hurt.

This is NOT about your loyalty to Rush or your support or non support for mandatory insurance contraception for women. It’s simply about slandering a woman who was testifying before Congress. If it was your wife, girlfriend or daughter testifying and Rush said that about her, what would your reaction be?

Put your political labels aside and look at all this objectively.  Get a brain for Gawd’s sake. I absolutely do not understand party labels or that left, right, conservative, liberal stuff. Its bull***t.  Like the guy interviewed on a news program today when asked his political preference regarding the candidates.  His response: “If they have an “R” after their name, I’m voting for them.”

BRILLIANT!   If Adolf Hitler, Syrian President Bashar al-Asasad, or Mr. Dinnerjacket of Iran had an “R” after their freakin names would ya vote for them too?  Probably.

I’m not saying that Republicans are bad.  They’re not. I’ve voted in favor for both parties, including a lot of Toga ones, (my favorites) and I keep an open mind deciding on the “candidate” and not the party label.  (and I DO check labels carefully because I’m on a diet)

In conclusion, (thank Gawd) this type of so-called on air “free speech” which is getting way out of hand and clearly is over the limit, especially when it damages the reputation of not only Sandra Fluke but that of Clear Channel and their sponsors, should be dealt with in a forceful manner.  If only to bring back some decency to talk radio. Sure, make your point if you’re a talk show host….but not at the expense of name calling.

My final word….Rush needs to be reassigned. (my polite word for “fired”)

Perhaps to the Food Channel where he can refer to vegetables, especially onions, as a bunch of tear jerking wimp vegetables.

  1. J Roycroft says:

Yep, the guy dropped to the level of Ed Schultz who called Laura Ingram a slut and Bill Maher who called Sarah Palin a cunt. But he did recognize what he did and sent out an apology. Sandra Fluke refused to accept it. Note that Sandra Fluke has since become twitter pals with Ed Schultz. So I guess it’s ok to refer to women as sluts as long as it isn’t Sandra Fluke.
Also take note that Sandra Fluke did not “testify.” She was never sworn in, she was merely invited to speak by Pelosi. As far as Rush getting fired….He owns his show and can’t be fired unless he fires himself. Clear Channel cannot afford to cancel his contract, it would be media suicide.
Isn’t it funny how the media ignores the fact that Fluke is an abortion activist and the only reason she chose to attend that particular college was because she knew they had a policy in effect regarding contraceptives. It was all about Fluke getting media hype in her effort to change the college policy and of course Obama jumped at the chance.
Hey- good post by the way!

      Thanks J.R….I stand corrected….she didn’t “testify.” Thanks again…: )
